POST 9/11 QUESTIONS

A few weeks after 9/11, appalled by the government's backlash, people's exaggerated fears, media's selective coverage and the progression of events at the time, I wrote an article that was read only by very few of my friends. I didn't dare publishing it at the time. However, as “dust settled” and people were able to express their views freely, more and more similar voices were heard.

However, a few questions remain..

- Other states possess nuclear weapons, including North Korea. How come we don't wage war on them?

-What if this crisis was happening in a nuclear state? Would Bush behave the same way?

- If Irak had nuclear weapons and posed a nuclear threat weren't we in danger of provoking a nuclear war? Doesn’t that prove we knew they didn’t?

-US has nuclear and biological weapons. Do other countries demand we disarm or face war?

-What moral right do we have to demand from others what we don't do ourselves?

-Can you trust US media to tell you the truth after Rumsfelds' famous "watch what you say" ?

- Before the first Gulf war the US media was trumpeting the testimony of a Kuveit nurse who told of Irakis throwing out babies from their incubators. It was a hoax concocted by a US PR firm. How many people know about it and how many concoctions are we being fed now?

-What do you really know about Irak or its people? Do you really know what they want? Do you care?

-Is it OK to wage war against innocent people when there are other means available to help them fight dictatorships if they want to?

Not withstanding all of the above, we know that people in totalitarian states just want to be free and are grateful to liberators regardless of their means and motivation. However, freedom can be achieved by diplomatic pressure and economic development without alienating our potential friends. US successfully "invaded" and amercanized the world without "sticks", only "carrots".
